The thrill of victory! The agony of defeat! Those are just two reasons “Antiques Roadshow” has become a passion, a cult, a veritable lifestyle choice for PBS viewers, and we guarantee: just one hit and you’ll be hooked. (Next thing you know, you’ll be attacking your attic’s bric-a-brac for some hidden Meissen.) We are thrilled to announce that TDI has partnered with PBS broadcaster WGBH to indulge your twin loves of cruising and hidden treasures both in America and abroad.
Travel Dynamics International is the first cruise company to offer North America’s Antiques Roadshow
enthusiasts an opportunity to discover the world’s—and their own—treasures together with experts from PBS’s most-watched series. Each voyage will be accompanied by the show’s Executive Producer, Marsha Bemko, and an expert appraiser, who will evaluate up to three items per passenger.
The exclusive partnership debuts with The Great Lakes: Cruising Through North America’s
Magnificent Inland Seas, a seven-night voyage from August 29 to September 5, 2009 that encompasses all five Great Lakes. Appraiser Stuart Whitehurst will helm the quest for vintage and collectible art throughout this journey aboard the 100-guest, all-suite Clelia II, a luxurious yacht known for its elegant accommodations, superb cuisine and intimate ambiance.
The second Antiques Roadshow cruise of 2009 is Voyage to the Classical World: Discovering the Treasures of the Greek Islands and Turkey. It sails October 7-17, 2009 aboard the all-suite, 114-Guest Corinthian II, a sister ship of Clelia II. Co-hosting with Ms. Bemko will be appraiser Ken Farmer.
This eight-night cruise starts with a visit to the iconic monuments of Athens before embarking the ship and sailing to Katakolon for a spin through ancient Olympia, home of the most important of the Panhellenic games. The next ports of call are Crete, Zeus’s birthplace and turf of the fabled Labyrinth of the Minotaur; Santorini, where guests prospect the island for vintage and collectible finds; Rhodes, to tour the key Medieval sites and rummage through the historic bazaar; and Priene and Ephesus, on the Turkish mainland. Corinthian II then navigates the Aegean’s eastern rim to Chios, where guests will explore the ancient site of the Byzantine Monastery of Nea Moni. Visits to the pristine islands of Delos and Syros conclude the voyage.
“The chance to join forces with WGBH and Antiques Roadshow adds an exciting new dimension to our exploration of cultural artifacts,” said Travel Dynamics International Co-president Vasos Papagapitos. “We invite the show’s fans from PBS member stations around the country to join their favorite show not on the road, but aboard classic small ships that recall the glamour and romance of a bygone era.”
Noted Ms. Bemko, “Travel Dynamics International’s Antiques Roadshow Cruises offer a thrilling and intimate new way to share the Roadshow experience with our fans. We’re excited to expand Antiques Roadshow’s journey of discovery and learning beyond the TV and computer screen.”
